On another perfect day in October, Mike and Laurie Brown hosted their 4th Annual Hoopster cruise.  Approx. 45 cars and
trucks met at Lou & Michelle's in Waterloo, Illinois.  Everyone signed up for the poker run and off we went, down the
backroads of southern Illinois.  Weather was beautiful and we had various stops in small towns, such as our first stop in New
Athens.  There we were able to have some beverages, food and as they say, pit stops.  After socializing for a while, off to the
town of Evansville.  This stop was right on the water and they had a lunch set up for our group.  Some had lunch and
refreshments were others decided to indulge in refreshments only.  Next stop was Freeda's in Renault, IL  This seemed to be
the favorite with outstanding bloody mary's that came with a salad on the drink stick.  This is one of the few places that I've
seen where they decorate the ceiling.  Then there is always the "burn out" expedition by many.. Not sure who won the
competition, but Mike Brown in his "hoopster" truck, Jim Cagle, Tim Brown, Quinton Clark and others gave quite a show.
Surprised that there was tires left on the rims.  After this stop, we headed back to Old Valmeyer to Mike Brown's ole station
where there was some mighty fine chili and dogs waiting for everyone.  Then as evening set in, the bonfire was the main
attraction, plus a few more burnout's on Mikes Patio.. Everyone had a wonderful time, even I did having to push Nick's truck
back to the stable.. Glad that there was a strong "pushing" rope available.  Some felt he was towing my t-bucket back, but
there is no substantial proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
Thanks Mike & Laurie Brown and all who helped put together this great cruise.  Everyone is looking forward to it again next
year.  I would also like to mention that all proceeds from the 4th Annual Valmeyer Hoopster Cruise went to Ranken Jordan
Children's Hospital
